Sundrop Farm in Port Augusta, Australia is the first farm to harvest sea water and sunlight to produce tomatoes on a commercial scale.
The sea water is pumped to the farm, treated and desalinated and the sunlight concentrated and converted to power the farm. Using hydroponic growing techniques in glsshouses and qith a controlled environment, Sundrop Farm are consistantly supplying Coles Grocery store with high quality, fresh tomatoes.
It is hoped that this model can be used across the world in areas of drought and extreme or varible weater conditions to provide sustainable fresh produce for the ever increasing demand.
