This November, Metropolis Farms are due to open the world's first solar powered urban farm in Philadelphia.
The rooftop has 2003 solar panels covering 100,000 sq meters. These capture over half a megawatt of energy and will power the urban farm being constructed in the previously derelict building below.
The indoor vertical farm will grow the equivalent of 660 acres of traditional farming land and will produce tomatoes, strawberries, lettuce, herbs, broccoli for the local community.
This is an exciting prosect for the future of urban farming!!
‘A great source of information and support. Good luck with making this primary source for hydroponics worldwide’ Iain Reynolds, CEO – Pocket Herbs and Produce, Australia
