On November 1, 2017 the National Organics Standards Board (an advisory body to the USDA) voted towards proposals to change the certification criteria that aeroponic, aquaponic and hydroponic practices would be prohibited under the USDA Organic regulations.
The outcome from the vote was that the changes were rejected and that hydroponic and aquaponic farms could remain eligible for the USDA Organic certification – a process which allows products from these farms to carry the USDA Organic label.
